A nice trip down memory lane thru you. I used to go to wolf trap, rfk, and merriwether post pavilion quite often plus a spattering of the bigger clubs like Celler Door.. I've seen probably 100 concerts over the years but that all ended by 2000. You couldn't pay me to go see any band at a large venue. I just can't handle the crowds anymore. Plus the older I get the less I like people in general, lol. I dread even going into a walmart for that very reason. There's also the issue with seeing my rock and roll idols as geezers. Something very strange about seeing 60 year olds play music they wrote in their 20's.

I'll just treasure my memories as I really don't think America 2.0 could actually reproduce such amazing fun times as we used to have. Too much bs, too much compliance, rules, and in general the inability to just let go and enjoy the moment.

One day you might become cynical. At least it seems you have that potential.

(I assume the "meet and greet" was the wife's idea.)

But I have to say, as usual, it was a good article.

Sounds absolutely awful. I'd have been out the door at the mention of masks. I will not, have not worn them even once for 5 minutes. I also wish the mask wearing brigade, who despite no requirements are still wearing them around here, would stop throwing the filthy things by the roadside. It's as disgusting as used condoms and cigarette butts everywhere. It's all over. I don't think our Western societies exist as a social phenomenon anymore. I'm not expecting entertainment from it anymore, I'll settle for just being left alone. I didn't want to be an old curmudgeon, but here I am.

I think you would need double-bourbon goggles to make America 2.0 look good! But at least you are still optimistic enough to go to these things and 'mingle' with the crowd, such as it is. Just keep in mind what Mark Twain said about optimists: 'The only thing sadder than a young pessimist is an old optimist'. Not that I'm saying you're old.... Guess I'll sign out now before I dig myself any deeper :-)

As Steve Forbert said, “I blinked once, and it was gone.” There is precious little that bears any resemblance to what I used to know. Some of that is good and much of it isn't.

American IQ has been under assault since 1965. Demographics. Denatured food supply, drugs, illegal and even more deadly, legal. Fluorides. Chemtrails. And sedentary lives, punctuated by the occasional 7th inning stretch. It's become a horrible melange of angry, degenarate Leftists, and masked up drmpftards.

No longer much to admire. Weak men with low standards, ugly women. Yuck.

Your night out sounds like torture, and I am a bit surprised that a realist like yourself, still holds out hope to be "entertained" by such an event. My best hope for entertainment is watching the birds/wildlife at my local nature park. Still, I'm glad you posted this, so I can get some idea of what's going on out there.

I'm surprised you actually had Farrell's on the east coast...and I'm curious about which Carpenter song they performed?

Was a big Bowie and Roxy music fan. Don’t want to see the old bands now. You can’t go home again

Another good article, Don. And you look great, by the way. Younger than ever.

(On a side note, I emailed you the other day and wanted to make sure you received it. Oftentimes my email ends up in spam folders.)

Gin Blossoms original lead guitarist and writer of their biggest hits, Doug Hopkins, including their breakthrough, "Hey Jealousy", allegedly committed suicide in 1993. Perhaps, but I don't believe the official narrative on anything. Maybe the "StarWhackers" paid him a visit. Another sacrifice to the demon gods of the perverted entertainment industry/racket. At any rate, nice writing as usual, Don. As a former rock n' roll drummer myself however, you couldn't drag me to a concert in contemporary Scumerica with a team of wild horses.

about 20 yrs back NYT's had an artical about IQ. they mentioned the requirment for bachlers degree, PHD ect. they had a chart for the highest % IQ's to the lowest, grouped by eithnicity. the standards have dropped considerably since then. this kind of artical would not be published after 2008, certainly not after 2012.

I don't know about that lol. I can be patient at times. They banned the side shows long ago, and now you can't even see a circus, because the animal rights groups shut them down. It's very sad that kids now won't have a chance to enjoy that kind of magic. But you can still see Cirque du Soleil, which I was dragged to a few times in recent years. I actually felt gay when I left the show.
