He was very credible and explicitly detailed in his interview on camera. He stated that he used a .270 caliber rifle and left the spent cartridge on the fence rail.

He was very credible and explicitly detailed in his interview on camera. He stated that he used a .270 caliber rifle and left the spent cartridge on the fence rail.
Obviously no one but him would know about the spent cartridge left at the scene of the crime.
Also as a proper assassin he used a hollow point bullet that entered the left of the skull and blew out the right rear of the skull, which is what Jackie leaped onto the trunk of the car to retrieve.

I have watched the video of Ruby shooting Oswald. If you stop and look at the face and body language of the Sheriff (forgot his name), he was on Oswald's right side and was looking away when the shot occurred and did not act at all like someone would react when a shot happens. He knew it was going to go down, thats my summation. Obviously, they wanted Oswald dead so he couldn't talk. But I believed him then, like now, when he said he was a Patsy. You bet! He didn't fire one shot at JFK.

Yes, you are over the target. The Powers-That-Be took a huge chance on taking out Oswald so blatantly. But I think it was a Beta Test to sniff out which law enforcement agencies were still honest and on the up-and-up, and would be howling like a pack of excited coyotes for an investigation.

Piper was sadly maligned and then ignored by the JFK research community. Now most of them acknowledge the reality of what he first revealed- that at the time of the assassination, JFK had been engaging in a bitter battle of words with Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, over their development of nuclear weapons. Physics matters. The only logical solution is that there was also a sniper team in the sewer. They were the youngest of the sniper teams. They had to crawl quite a ways. Had only a small window but was possible because of the slowing/stopping of the limo. That's why a lot of the witnesses mentioned a kind of hollow echo noise. You'll see a number of people looking towards the grate and running towards it, then the grassy knoll to see where it leads.
The mockingbird chirping is deafening. I see this as repressive desublimation---an attack on yet another presumption/assumption causing disruption and confusion leading to aggression or passivity. The secret service failed, criminally at Dealey Plaza and now this old fart wants to make money on a story for which it is impossible to verify or refute. This a$$hole waited nearly 6-decades to "tell the truth"???? I wouldn't read the book if he gave it to me with a signature of JFK, which he would swear to be true. Blah.
As regards the establishment, that: "they never promote truth."
Rather they only do so under duress or if it is harmless.

At this point in history, the truth of the JFK assassination has been so well twisted into a Gordian Knot Pretzel that only the Angels in Heaven can unravel it. Us mere mortals can only wonder at the Red Herrings, the False Leads, and the Deep-Dive Dead End Rabbit Holes that have been conjured to foil researchers at every turn. You allude to some of them with regard to the Jim Garrison investigation. Yes, The New Orleans District Attorney, despite all the resources at his disposal, was getting in way, way above his pay grade. And what does this say about us mere researchers, who navigate from the tips of our noses guided by horse sense and the facts on the ground?
Of course, it does not help that we have to discern who are the lairs and manipulators and who are the honest persons working in a corrupted environment. Our Lord Jesus Christ, in the parable on the wheat and the weeds, said that not even His Angels could be discerners of such hearts. So who are we to judge? And, yet, judge we must, if Truth itself is to be defended.
And neither does it help that often, too often, the edifices built to help discern are based themselves on faulty premises and theoretical fairy tales. DNA analysis, anyone? Is there even such a thing as DNA?
One thing is certain- the Kennedy Assassination was not done on a whim by a nutty gunman. Even the official narrative is at pains to indicate their patsy, Oswald, had been planning the attempt months in advance. (One does wonder how Oswald was privy to the last minute change in plans of the parade route which deviated from that released by the papers the day before- that alone should have even the most dulwitted asking pertinent questions concerning the "Lone Gunman" narrative.)
Of course, that would immediately give rise to questions about the crappy weapon used, and the mail-order trail created to procure it, but I digress.
I think here I can safely conclude that Mr Paul Landis is just trying to cash in on all the controversy, and his testimony that he found the magic bullet and placed it on the stretcher is probably just pure bullshit- a publicity stunt if ever there was one. After all, somebody with the audacity to sit on the truth for eons, short of a vision of Hell similar to that suffered by the three Fatima Children, is not going to have a sudden epiphany and metanoia and start spouting truth from a dunghill. Any ballistics expert would surely conclude that the only thing the Magic Bullet impacted was the cotton wadding underneath the upholstery of the limousine. But truth and the JFK assassination do not even mix as well as oil and water.
