Excellent writing (as always), Don. Having traveled all over the country including northern VA, I feel fortunate to have lived most of my life in the very rural upper midwest. People here still mow their own yards and the gas stations are mostly American-owned and operated. Population density and tyranny are almost always proportional.

I'm not much of a traveler- only seen the sites a girl can see from Brooklyn Heights. So maybe I am judging by the way things are in the D.C. suburbs. But I doubt there are any Mayberrys out there, untouched remnants of America 1.0. Thanks!
IтАЩve traveled the lower 48 -3 million miles over the last 30 years. You would be pleasantly surprised . The real division in this country is urban/suburban vs. rural. ThatтАЩs something I wish BRV better understood. He reminds of the classic тАЬView from a New YorkerтАЭ magazine cover from 1976. Lol But I will concede that America 2.0 is ever encroaching on us.
